,Following the ZPC 2016 Convention and a visit to the Rutland Birdfair we spent a few day in Suffolk and Essex. Nowadays it is hard to completely ignore the reports of rare birds passing through fairly close so we tried to find Wryneck, a real bogey bird for us. Over three visits we saw it once, probably the last time it was seen. It was the first we had seen in UK; of course it apparently cavorted in front of the photographers the day before. C'est la vie. More predictable, we encountered quite a few Chats and Wheatears. This one came so close I eventually could not focus. The naivety of these young migrant birds going on life's journey into an unknown land and future is quite affirming. |
