We are not long back from a Spring visit to Belarus. I say Spring but it seemed to be a very late one. Many birds had not arrived which was a great disappointment. We did however visit a Great Snipe lek. The males are quite noisy - and behave quite differently to the Common Snipe, calling and displaying frequently. It only really gets going properly when the females arrive after dark. We are fortunate that modern cameras can take us well into dusk and can still record a decent image - a trend that will continue a bit further for some time. Wildlife photographers regularly wish they had yesterday's experiences with today's cameras. |
