We have a local site for Northern Brown Argus(pictured). Every year, we expect them not to turn up as its a small colony and much shaded by encroaching vegetation. Not only that, but we have never found the expected food plant - Rock rose. It can also use other plants but I am not sure this has been recorded in Scotland. Anyway, it gives great pleasure to find it each year.
Near to our home we have been following the fortunes of a pair of Spotted Flycatchers which, as I write have very small young. They have gone from Common British bird to being uncommon so its good to follow their progress in a suburban garden where they have nested for fifteen years at least.
