We are not long back from New Zealand. On returning we developed colds so that has delayed posting a new blog but here is it. We largely achieved all our targets in New Zealand - too see and photographing the endemic and local species. A couple of days stand out. One is the Kaikoura pelagic. After setting off in fairly choppy seas we soon stopped to put out some fish. Before we had even done this, various seabirds assembled around the boat including Albatrosses. It was fantastic - probably the best experience ever in a boat (its true, I'm not a fan of them). Opposite is a Wandering Albatross coming in to get a share of the fishy goodies. We also saw a selection of Petrel, Shearwater and Mollymawks, all at close range. |
