Stonechat numbers have been hit badly since we had consecutive hard winters. Its taken a long time but their recovery seems under way now. This male caught and ate a caterpillar whilst we enjoyed it's company so fingers crossed for this hardy one.
In the last couple of days winter has descended and scraping the ice from the car has become routine. By far my best sighting was a mole above ground, a very rare sight indeed. No picture but the sight of it scurrying to a grass tuft is embedded in the mind.
