At the moment most of the local wildlife activity is at the coast where birds are migrating south to escape our winter. Yet to arrive are the, very welcome, winter visitors. A visit to the coast gave us good views of a selection of waders such as Ringed Plover, Sanderling and Knot, some looking quite red. Some of these will remain during winter.
On a different day I set off in the other direction to see if I could get a picture of a Red Grouse with a typical backdrop for this time of year - the flowering heather. With a bit of effort I managed my objective. It a backdrop that peaks in intensity during August.
